Calangute Beach |
|
|
Lying beautifully on the shores of the Arabian Sea, shadowed under the swaying palm trees, there bathes the Queen of Beaches – the Calangute beach in Goa! It takes only 45-minutes bus ride from the city of Panjim to reach the Calangute beach, the Queen of Beaches. Goa’s Calangute beach is the busiest and most commercialized one in entire Goa. Calangute is the name of a peaceful fishing village, lying on the seashore, which used to be the favorite hippies hideout during the 70s and 80s. Today, Calangute beach represents Goa’s reputation as a haven for coastal splendor and beach life.

Nightlife in Calangute beach is surprisingly calmer and peaceful that provides a nice break from the wild trance parties at Anjuna. Calangute beach is not such a crowded place like the other Goa beaches, and nightlife here only means a handful of bars that shuts down well before 10pm. Only the Tito’s at the Baga end remain opened till midnight in the off-season and in the late December and January it barely remains closed.
So, it’s a peaceful haunt where the seekers of isolation and tranquility relish their leisure vacations. Amongst the attractions around Calangute beach there is the Church Of St. Alex and the Kerkar Art Gallery. The former one welcomes the visitors with its two towers and a glorious dome that faces the façade. The art gallery displays the sculptures and paintings of many talented and upcoming Goa artists. This gallery also hosts once every week a night of Indian dance and music.
The striking beauty of the Calangute beach attracts tons of tourists to this place every year. Once you reach this beach, look no further and spend your vacation soaked in the sea’s serenity, the warmth of the sun and the golden sand. Simply sit on the beach and watch the calling waves of the Arabian Sea or build sand castles on the shore.
