Colva Beach

Located in South Goa, 40 kilometers from Panaji, the capital city of Goa, and merely 6 kilometers from Margao, Colva beach is one of the most popular beaches in Goa. In fact it holds a pride of place in the state of Goa. Known for its natural beauty, Colva beach has lot to offer to its locals and visitors, either international or domestic. The beach has a life of its own, owing to the rich cultural heritage and local history of the place. Though recently discovered by tourists and developed with a wide range of hotels in Colva beach, the latter still offers many spots of solitude to its tourists. The 20-kilometer stretch of soft sand and the gentle waters of the Arabian Sea ensures that you have ample place to laze on the beach and soak up the sun. There is a throng of tourists to Colva beach all round the year, especially during the time of the renowned fairs and festivals.
It is easy to get to Colva beach, as it is well connected with most popular destinations in Goa. While the nearest railway station is at Konkan Rail train station, merely 3 kilometers from Margao, there are other options of buses, taxis and motorcycles from Margao and Vasco da Gama. The interstate buses connect Colva beach with other cities of Goa as well. Once you are here, there are many options where places to stay in Colva beach is concerned. The latter includes high range resorts such as Renaissance Goa Resort to three star hotels such as Silver Sands Beach Resort, Longuinhos Beach Resort and Vista De Colva, to a range of good and inexpensive guest houses on the beach. The shacks on the beach offer a good range of Goan and Portuguese cuisine and other Indian cuisines.

Colva beach becomes more popular during the time of the festivals. Some of the well-noted festivals are the religious feast of Fama of Menino Jesuse, held on the third Monday of every October, held in Our Lady of Mercy Church, the bullfight at Benaulim beach, a quieter beach merely 2 kilometers away from Colva beach and the Beach Bonanza fair held on every Sunday after mid-April.

The interesting blend of natural beauty, recreation and entertainment is probably what makes the Colva beach the most popular beach destination in Goa.
