Palolem Beach

Palolem beach until recently been the virgin beaches of Goa. However, the beach has over the past few years been visited by considerable number of tourists, who wish to escape city life and the tourist crowd in Goa itself. Palolem beach is not only known for its scenic beauty, though the arc shaped shoreline, fringed with coconut trees and soft white sand, never fails to enchant you. The water could not be cleaner and clearer than this! There are hardly any surfs on the beach, so that swimming in the gentle waters of the Palolem beach remain a favorite activity for most families, and especially the children. Located about two kilometers from west of Chaudi in Canacona district in South Goa, it is probably the most noted beach destination for those traveling from Karnataka.
Palolem beach is situated more than 70 kilometers away from Panaji, the capital city of Goa and 40 kilometers from Margao. The nearest railway station is at Canacona, merely three kilometers from the Palolem beach. Getting to Palolem beach is possible not only through the buses from Margao, but also via taxis, auto rickshaws and motorcycles, hired from anywhere in Goa to the beach. It is probably because of its location that Palolem beach is still not thronged by the huge beach crowds, so typical of most beaches in Goa. It is the ideal spot for lazing around, the islands surrounding the beach, lending a mysterious charm.

Mostly a fishing beach, Palolem beach is ideal for spotting dolphins and fishing cruises, undertaken frequently by the local fishermen. Moreover, there is a fresh river running in the northern end of the beach, and dipping into the same during low tides is another favorite with the visitors to the Palolem beach. The nearby village is a good place for a range of accommodations, eating places and shacks, tiny curios and shops which sell handicrafts, among others. An ideal place for your family to get away this winter!
