Vagator Beach

Vagator beach is one of the jewel beaches of Goa, located in northern end of Bardez taluka in North Goa. About 24 kilometers from Panaji, the capital of Goa and 9 kilometers from Mapusa, Vagator beach is one of those ideal beaches where life seems to carry on in its own sweet pace. Away from the bustling city life and away from the world renowned beaches of Goa, such as Anjuna beach to the south, the Vagator beach offers to its visitors a perfect escape of white sand and an exotic shade of the Arabian Sea. One can see the color of the waters changing on these beaches.
The Vagator beach is actually a series of tiny beaches, separated by the black lava rocks. The impressive structure of the Chapora fort, standing majestically on the rocks, can be viewed from the Vagator beach. You can also climb the rocks to see this 500 year old Portuguese fort, the top providing a breathtaking view of the sea, the coconut trees and the entire village.

What makes the Vagator beach special is not only the spectacular views and the clean beach, but also the local culture, which is marked distinctly by the rural, fishermen community living on the fringes of the beach. It is worth a sight to watch them celebrating their catch when the menfolk bring back home a bounty of fishes from the Sea. The local shops and the shacks are the best place to eat, serving some of the authentic local cuisine, made right in front of you. The pretty cottages with beautiful garden lining the shores offer some of the most enchanting views of the beach.

There are not many places to stay in the Vagator beach, as the homes and the resorts are booked from long before. While June to October must be avoided as the place gets very heavy rainfall, do plan and book your accommodation from before. The guest houses and local houses, which are occasionally hired, offer a good deal to the visitors. The Vagator beach is well connected with Mapusa and Panaji through frequent buses running up and down the route.
