Culture of Goa

One of the most discerning asset of Goa is its cultural heritage. The culture of Goa ensembles the Portuguese influence as well as other Europen influences. It has been found that Goans have a preference for pop music, soft rock and ballads over hard rock, hip-hop and others. Some of the traditional Goan dance forms are dekhnni, fugdi and corridinho.



Cuisine forms an important part in the culture of any nation or community and Goa is no exception. Rice and fish are the staple diet of Goa. Goa is famous for its rich variety of fishes cooke with elaborate recipes. Coconut and coconut oil is largely usec in Goan food along with chili peppers, spices abd vinegar giving the food a uniqur flavor. Pork dishes form an inevitable part of the culture of Goa. Dishes like Vindaloo, Xacuti and Sorpotel are cooked for major occasions among the catholics. Bebicana, a sweet dish and the exotic Goan vegetable stewknown as Khatkhate is famous all across the ccountry. The typical Indo-Portuguese style architectural buildings, the living museums, the world heritage sites all integrate to give us a flavor of the culture of Goa that is distinctively Goan.
