	The Indian Portuguese territories once had Old Goa as its capital city. It is situated on the bank of River Mandovi, just 9 kms away from eastern region of Panaji. Barely one would find anything in Old Goa, apart from some cathedrals and churches of the 16th and 17th century. Old Goa has been granted the World Heritage Status by UNESCO for the extraordinary and unique structures, witnessed throughout the nation. This is the main reason for drawing in more tourists from across the globe. This port town of Goa was formerly founded by Bahmani and Vijaynagar kings.

Later Adil Shah, the emperor of Bijapur made Old Goa his second capital. In those days Old Goa comprised only mosques, the palace of the ruler and some beautiful temples.
